Brake fluid is quite corrosive and given the chance, it can strip off your car’s shining finish. Designed to dislodge rust and other contaminants from the braking system, it eats away rust and sadly even your car’s finish. As you fill the reservoir be sure to clean up all spills immediately or you might find the paint stripped revealing metal underneath. Wash your hands thoroughly after handling brake fluid as with any other type of chemical. Most of the stuff used in your car’s engine is dangerous for kids so dispose of them properly. Brake fluid stains or drips might be a sign of loose fittings so have them checked.

Crumple zones are purposely made weaker than the rest of the cab of a vehicle allowing it to absorb some of the forces during a crash. Fender benders might not make it apparent but a bit more than that and a quick look under the hood would show some crumpled/mis-shapened members of the frame and under-chassis showing it has absorbed some of the impact force. A crash you might have felt might have been more forceful than you think for the dampening effect of these crumple zones absorbs so much of the force. The most rigid part of any auto is the cab where the people are housed in a solid frame that should withstand quite a beating and still maintain integrity protecting everybody within. Cleaning and inspecting the belts, anchors and tensioner systems is a good way of ensuring the safety of all.

Asides from the shopping cart as the most used four wheel vehicle, the car is a very important part of everyday life for many of us who have to travel to get to work, get chores done and many more. It is only fitting that we do maintain them as best we can for they serve us as best we maintain them. With the high prices of gas and the global economy on the rocks, many have resorted to keeping them in their garages, waiting for better times. A little oil here, some water there, a short trip to the mechanic and even an occasional wash would go a long way in ensuring it lasts years. True, public transport has taken some of the burden but with high hopes, we hope to bring out our modern beasts of burden.

Most auto manufacturers now offer customization products that go hand in hand with your vehicle. They are not only tested but designed to work flawlessly unlike many aftermarket options that are made of sub-standard materials or may defeat built-in safety systems. They don’t just look good they also maintain the warranty of your vehicle which is defeated by most after-market ones for they were nor tested and designed properly. Check with the dealer and ask for approved upgrades that will set you back some cash but for a new car, that might just be worth that extra cash. Besides, you don’t risk getting your perfectly new car with holes and other modifications that defeats factory protection.

Some crazy researcher in Europe came up with he brilliant idea that he could create a car that was powered by nothing but air, yep, air. Well, how cheap can you get, air is free after all and every place on earth has it so why not. Considering the cost of gas nowadays, any crazy idea might just be worth trying out and what have you got to lose? AIR? The design is based around a compression engine that uses no fossil fuel to run but rather pistons that work together arranged in a circular matter to produce motion. There may be a small battery for safety reasons (lights, horn, signal lights and other)but that is easily remedied for many clean batteries now exist that can be charged when they are parked along with a compressor that charges the used gas in its tanks.

Any car with a computer for a brain is designed to perform at optimum levels till you consider that each and every time you use your car, it degrades to some extent which makes maintenance a very important task. One doesn’t need to be a grease monkey to be able to successfully maintain any vehicle and the only thing needed would be to heed and observe the proper maintenance schedules prescribed in the user’s manual. If one wants hands-on DIY maintenance, it is surprisingly easy with a manual in hand and if original parts are used. You do save quite a lot in the process but be sure to know what you’re doing or risk injury to you or others who uses your car. As a rule of thumb, I get original parts as much as possible but replacement or OEM parts are also just as good as long as they are approved by your auto maker.

Spark plugs is the most noticeable difference a diesel and gas engine has and they have been firing away ever since they were invented in 1898 allowing the internal combustion engine to run. From inception till today, their basic design has remained the same only with the addition of electrodes made of precious metals and other advances. These devices allow electricity to ignite the gas air mixture within the engine’s cylinders making them move. Though generally worry free, they do need inspection from time to time to prevent damage to the engine itself. Some spark plugs have four ground electrodes giving the electricity more chances of giving a nice spark. They do need replacing after specified parameters due to wearing out for the extreme temperatures they work in eventually decreases their efficiency and ability to spark.

Seatbelts have long become standard on vehicles and they have been saving lives ever since they were introduced. Some hate them for they feel restrained (which is the point of having them) and lessening their ability to move around the vehicle when on the road. Businessmen and women hate them for the wrinkles they leave behind after a drive but hey, its there to save your life so use it. The belt it is made of nylon webbing which is quite tough and can withstand immense pressures that are experienced during a crash. They like all parts of your car need inspection to assure they have no frays, cuts or nicks, any of which would cause them to fail in case you get in an accident. After a crash, they should be inspected and replaced for the belts tend to get damaged even without visible clues to it. Stay safe, wear your seatbelt whenever you drive.
